iPhone storage solution

If you have read this blog for any length of time, you know I love to take pictures.  My little digital camera stinks to high heavens and the batteries are never charged when I need them, and what a pain to carry around another device, and on and on. I'm an iPhone camera loving girl.  Maybe someday I'll update to the 4s and have magical pictures, but for now I'll stick with my iPhone4.  I wrote a post last month with some tips for taking pictures here.

I take an extremely ridiculous amount of pictures and have a little bit of a storage problem.  I also have the problem of wanting my pictures from my phone on my laptop almost immediately so that I can blog with them.

Speaking of pictures, look at this cutie I caught on Sunday!   Our screened in porch has the best light in the late afternoons!

I tried the iCloud thing and only ended up more and more confused.  Those pictures are not readily available anywhere if you aren't the proud owner of a Mac or a degree from Devry.  Since I am too cheap for a Mac and not technologically advanced; I needed to find a solution.  Since I exceeded my iCloud storage, ohhh about 2000 pictures ago, that again wasn't working for me.  I want my iCloud to be able to back up my phone in case something happens to it, so I need it to store my apps, mail, music and all it's settings.

A friend suggest Dropbox.  I looked into it and instantly loved it!  When you install it on your iPhone {OR DROID} and your computer, you can instantly see and access all your pictures!!  You can set it to instantly upload all your pics to this dropbox folder, which makes it almost seamless.  Dropbox installs a folder on your desktop and that folder updates from your iPhone.  You can also create a shared folder to share any of those pictures with friends and family.  I did this with my recent Color Run pictures.  I didn't want to email every picture to everyone there, so I just created a shared folder and emailed it to everyone.  The one downside to this is the people that you share it with can delete pictures.  I found this out after sending it to my brother, just to test the sharing out.  He started deleting pictures out of the folder that I guess he didn't want. I was so confused about why my pictures were disappearing!!

I'm not being paid to promote this--I just wanted to share with you what is working for me.  Also, I receive free additional storage if you sign up through the links in this blogpost!  By all means, please sign up under me or a friend so you BOTH receive an additional 500 mb of storage space!  Oh and did I say it was FREE??  for the first several gigs and then you can buy more or convince your friends to sign up under you for free space.  I have 6 gigs free so far!

  1. I LOVE Dropbox too! I use it to back-up some files (especially the long papers for grad classes). Thanks for sharing the bit about how people you share files with can delete them. I didn't know that.
