I want to introduce you to Kimberly Rae:
Kim and I both grew up in the same area and then followed each other around the country. Okay, it was really me that followed her around the country, literally. Though I think I have bragging rights that I met her husband before she did.
Kim has lived in Bangladesh, Uganda, Kosovo and Indonesia. She's done cool things like raft the Nile River, fun things like flying all the way around the world (just not all at once) and ridiculous things, like eating cow brains just to say she'd done it! She's been writing for Christian magazines and curriculum, etc. for over ten years, but her first novel was released in 2011--a Christian suspense and romance book on international human trafficking.
Kim can't live overseas anymore due to Addison's disease (the same disease some think killed Jane Austen--maybe it's a writer thing) and a few other health problems including a cyst on her brain (she says for a stay at home mom, she sure has an interesting life!), but is content knowing God isn't finished with her yet. Kim has two children, ages 7 and 3, and a very nice husband who actually lets her read aloud everything she writes, even the stuff for teen girls--now that's love.
Kim has written two amazing books, Stolen Woman and Stolen Child.
Kim was asked why she wrote these books. "I looked and looked but could not find one book about trafficking overseas that ended with not just getting rescued from something bad, but to something good." What I wanted most was to read a story that ended with true freedom and lasting hope. And as someone once said, if you can't find the book you want to read, you must write it. So I did."
I gobbled up both of these books, almost as fast as the Hunger Games trilogy, almost. I say almost, because I had to wait for the second book to come out. Fortunately for you, they are both released and readable :).
For those of you that I'm connected to through the adoption blog community, you will be interested to know that the main character, Asha, was adopted.
You will be instantly drawn to Asha. Asha is a christian teenager from America who goes on a college mission's trip to India, which is very close to her country of birth, Bangladesh. Asha is innocently exposed to the horrific world of human trafficking. Asha knew nothing about it before meeting Rani, a 16 year old stolen from her home and forced into prostitution in Kolkata, India. Asha must help this girl escape, but Mark, a 3rd generation missionary, keeps warning her away from the red-light district and its workers. Will she ever discover why? And will they ever stop their intense arguments long enough to admit their even more intense feelings for one another? {ahem..enter love story plot :)} When Asha sneaks out one last time in a desperate attempt to rescue her friend, someone follows her through the night. Is freedom possible? Or will she, too, become one of the stolen? (portions of this taken from the book's description online)
Kim does a great job dealing with the effects of being adopted as an infant. In the second book, you will follow Asha as she seeks to find her birth family in a foreign country. Her search opens quite the pandora's box, that she wasn't quite sure she was prepared to deal with.
I'm so excited that the set is going to be a trilogy! I can't wait to read the third book, Stolen Future!
Kim, as a very special favor to me, has offered to giveaway THREE signed copies of her fabulous book! For those of you that I'm connected to through the adoption blog community, you will be interested to know that the main character, Asha, was adopted.

ReplyDeleteWhy would I love to win these books? Well, who wouldn't? ;) Seriously though, you and I have pretty similar tastes in books and I'm always looking for a good read. I NEED something to read before I hit the sack at night to quiet my mind down and to sleep well, something new is always welcome on my bookshelf. Human trafficking is quickly becoming an issue on people's radars and the exposure to this important issue is essential for positive change. Thanks for doing this Amber! -Jenna

ReplyDeleteOh, I just watched a documentary on TV on human trafficking right here in the US. And being that we live right by the MOA (one of the higher rated areas on the list of child trafficking) I have a heightened awareness about it. These books seem right up my alley of interest! Great giveaway! :0)

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! Either way...win or not...I hope to read this. I'm sure my sister would like this too. I don't know if you've read the book SOLD, but it is one book that I've encouraged my students to read about trafficking. Every time one of them finished reading the book, I would introduce them to International Justice Mission started by Gary Haugen. They rescue people in trafficking and slavery. Another group is Stella's Voice who helps girls in Moldova. Anyone who reads this blog should check out these groups who are doing something about truly helping people and giving them hope!
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds fabulous!! I'd love to receive a copy. Watching the movie "Taken" really opened my eyes to the horrors of human trafficking. I'd be very interested in reading a book on the subject from a Christian perspective. It sounds like this book has some very interesting characters/relationships and definitely sounds like an exciting plot. I'm not much of a reader but this definitely sounds like something I wouldn't be able to put down!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! That sounds like a great read! I will be sitting through two over twenty-four hour flights this summer on the way to AFrica and back and will need some new reading material. Fingers are crossed! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVED THIS BOOK... Don't enter me in the contest because I already have both and cannot wait for #3 to come out... just wanted to share these are worth every penny and bring you right to the door of India.
ReplyDeleteThere is more and more bringing this subject to light, and I would definitely love to read from the perspective of someone in the middle of it!
ReplyDeleteI've liked the facebooke page!
ReplyDeleteI'm sharing on facebook! (This is Sarah Peters, not Sarah Smith... don't know why it's putting my name like that!) :o)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fascinating book by a fascinating author! Your mom has told me a little of the story, and I'm ready for both of these books! Shared and liked on Facebook, too!
ReplyDeleteThey sound like such good books! I love reading, so that is the way I tend to get my knowledge. Human trafficking is such a horrible practice. Humans are not property. Thank you, Kimberly Rae, for opening our eyes through your book.
ReplyDeleteI liked the facebook page :)
ReplyDeleteShared on FB because I think it's such an awesome book!
ReplyDeleteI would love to read her books! My daughters have shared their burden for the people most vulnerable to this horrible problem. Please enter me in the contest. Headed over to the requested FB page now. Thank you!
