Thankful Thursday--SLEEP!

Watching the snow fall on Saturday morning
Today I am so thankful for a little extra sleep today! You see this "cutie boy" [what he refers to himself in pictures] decided he was going to wake up at 5:00 a.m. the last FIVE days in a row.  My little man who usually sleeps until at least 7:00 a.m. every day.

I know those of you who still have infants, don't think too much of 5 a.m., especially if they'd been sleeping since 7 p.m.. Once you become accustomed to your child sleeping that late, it is very hard to flex from that!

I think the main issue is the potty thing. The first week of January, he decided that he was too big for pull-ups at night time and was only going to wear underwear to bed.  I was a little terrified, since we had only considered him completely day potty-trained for a couple weeks.  He had three accidents that first week, but has been a rock star ever since!

He wakes up at 5 a.m. to go potty and I think it's just too close to normal wake up time for him to settle back down.  This morning, I didn't turn his twilight turtle on (though it was quite a fuss from him), I turned the heat up a little (he seemed a little chilly), tucked him in very tight and asked him to PLEASE close his eyes and go back to sleep, that I was very excited to see him, but that I would be more excited at 7 a.m. after I was awake!

Then I ran back down to our bed and PRAYED and PRAYED every time I heard him make a peep.  He had to go potty one more time at 5:30, and then I didn't hear anything else.  Ahhh I was able to sleep until 6:30!  I jumped into the shower and made it through my routine!  Amazingly, he slept until I woke him up at 7:30! I was able to make his lunch for preschool and make our smoothies for the day before he even woke up!  He was as sweet as could be this morning.  Thank you, Lord!

He is so full of wonder and excitement that I don't think he wants to miss a thing, even at the crack of dawn!

Working on reading some Bob books
Let's just hope he was able to break the cycle this morning and won't be doing that again anytime soon!  I've felt a frazzled mess every morning!   And for the record, I didn't let him out of bed quite that early the other mornings, but he is so rambunctious and loud up there (his room is right above our's), that there is no way I can sleep through it!

  1. LOL! Even us moms with early risers never get used to it. My kids rarely sleep past 6 a.m. EVER! But, I keep hoping...dreaming? Being DELUSIONAL?!?!
