Hello World!

I am still alive here!  My life has been insane and blogging has definitely been on the back burner!  Things are going well though!

I hate to do the bullet point thing, but maybe I could do a blog about each of those and this could be my inspiration....  Here is what has been going on...

  • Brayden turned TWO!  So hard to believe this one!
  • I secured a new part-time job.  I will officially be going back to work (after 2 years off) the first week of April.
  • Brayden is starting daycare/preschool. A big first for us!
  • I'm training for a half marathon. The race is in May.
  • My parents visited from Atlanta (for B's birthday)!
  • I changed Brayden's pediatrician after a snafu by his original pediatrician.
  • I bought the new VZ iPhone and have been having fun with it ever since, especially love the instagram app.
  • Brayden loves the Zoo. We were given a zoo membership for Christmas and have been 4 times in the last few weeks!
Okay, that's all the excitement I can think about right now!  Hope y'all are all doing well!

The Bridge of Peace

Ever since we adopted our son, who has Amish roots, I have been very interested in reading Amish fiction books.  I have read several Amish fiction books that were historical fiction, but prefer reading modern Amish fiction.  The Bridge of Peace was set in modern day.

Unfortunately, I did not read the previous book in this series.  I think that is why this book may have been a little difficult read at the beginning.  There were so many names at the very beginning and the book jumped around quite a bit between characters.  When I finished the book, I discovered a glossary of characters at the very end.  I wish I had seen this first--it definitely would have been helpful to read it first.

Even though it started out a little difficult to read at the beginning, it turned into a wonderful story that I couldn't put down!  I fell in love with the characters!  There is quite of a bit of suspense and mystery behind Lena and her issues as the one-room Amish schoolteacher.  She is a fun, energetic and wild young  Amish woman!

It is hard for us "Englishers" to understand the Amish way of life and culture, but it's refreshing and somewhat sad to see that they struggle with the same issues that we do, although they handle them differently.

If you have interest in the Amish culture, I would definitely recommend this book.
